CROWN St Mall was transformed into a piazza on Saturday as shoppers gathered to sample the true delights of the Italian culture.

Tutti in Piazza was organised by the Illawarra's Italo-Australian Association as part of the 2008 Italian Week celebrations.

Pasta, Italian sausage, coffee beans and authentic, home-made gingerbread, nougat and crostoli were all part of the fare while a showcase of Italian talent and displays was also a feature.

Paolo Volpato, president of the Illawarra Association of Teachers of Italian said the day represented the organi-sation's 14th celebration in the mall.

"It's a fantastic opportunity for the Italian community to bring something of its culture to the Illawarra," he said.

Mr Volpato said Tutti in Piazza provided a lead-up to Festa della Repubblica, the Italian national holiday which is celebrated today.
