Crown St Mall Turns Into Piazza For A Day

Crown St Mall will be transformed into an Italian piazza today for Italian Day.

Food from various regions of Italy will be on offer, including pasta, ice-cream and pizza, and coffee-making demonstrations will be held.

Italian Day is the culmination of Italian Week, and spokesman Paola Volpato said a large turnout was expected.

``Italian Week is a huge event for us and we look forward to it every year," he said.

``The mall will be transformed into an Italian piazza with parades, flag waving and Italian cars and motorbikes on display.

``Local schoolchildren will also entertain everyone with traditional Italian dances and songs."

Lord Mayor George Harrison will launch the event at 11am. Festivities will go from 10am to 4pm.
